In the 2019 SCI Journal Citation Reports (JCR) released in June 29, 2020, the Impact Factor of Petroleum Exploration and Development is 2.845, ranked third (Q1) in the category of Petroleum Engineering and ranked in Q2 area in Geosciences. The journal impact factor has increased significantly from 2.540 in 2018, and the ESI total citations have increased significantly from 2,858 in 2018 to 3,818.
Petroleum Exploration and Development has implemented an internationalization strategy since 2009. It has kept up with the forefront of petroleum science and technology and published a series of major scientific and technological achievements and high-level papers from China and abroad, leading the development of petroleum science and technology. The journal has been indexed in Science Citation Index Expanded (SCI) since 2012. It is also indexed by Engineering Index (EI), SCOPUS, Petroleum Abstracts (PA), Geo-Ref, Russia Abstracts Journal (AJ), Japan Science & Technology Agency database (JST), Source Journal for Chinese Scientific and Technical Papers and Citations, and other well-known databases, major research institutions and libraries. It is published worldwide in both Chinese and English. The English version of the journal is Open Access available on ScienceDirect of Elsevier. The academic influence of the journal continues to increase significantly.
Petroleum Exploration and Development has audience from 124 countries and regions, receives contributions from 35 countries in Asia, Europe, Oceania, Africa and the Americas, and its published papers are cited by 125 SCI journals. The journal won the “Nomination Journal Award of the China Publishing Government Award”. It has been awarded “Internationally Most Influential Academic Journal of China” for eight consecutive years, “Outstanding S&T Journals of China for four consecutive years” and “Certificate of 100 Outstanding Academic Journals of China” for sixteen times. Thirteen papers published in the journal have been awarded “China's 100 most influential domestic academic papers”. In the past decade, the journal’s impact factor has been ranked among the top five in China's core science and technology journals, and ranked first in the country for five consecutive years from 2012 to 2016.
