Petroleum Exploration and Development was started in 1974. Its purposes are to disseminate and communicate the up-to-date science and technology of petroleum; and to cover the latest theoretical and technological developments and research results in China and across the world relating to petroleum geology, oil and gas field development, petroleum engineering, new energy, CCUS , etc. The columns in the journal include: Petroleum Exploration, Oil and Gas Field Development, Petroleum Engineering, and Comprehensive Research.
Petroleum Exploration and Development is indexed and abstracted in both Science Citation Index Expanded (SCI) and Engineering Index (EI).
In the 2022 Journal Citation Reports (JCR), the Impact Factor of Petroleum Exploration and Development is 7.5 , which is ranked first in Q1 area among all the SCI journals in the category of Petroleum Engineering and ranked 32nd in Q1 area in the category of Geosciences.
Petroleum Exploration and Development has been awarded the "Nomination Award of the China Government Journal Award"twice in 2013 and 2021. The journal has been awarded “Certificate of 100 Outstanding Academic Journals of China” for 18 years in row. It has been awarded “Internationally Most Influential Academic Journal of China” for 10 years consecutively.
Petroleum Exploration and Development is published worldwide in both Chinese and English. The Chinese version of the journal (in which articles of foreign authors are translated into Chinese) can be read on the journal homepage http: //www.cpedm.com and the journals platforms of CNKI, Wanfang Data and Cqvip.
